If you are a Nigerian between the ages of 25 and 35, and curious to know more about the practice of monitoring and evaluation, then you should apply for the Mastercard Foundation Young Impact Associates (YIA) Program by clicking on this link – https://www.cloneshouse.com/yia/ . In this resource, I will share with you what we are looking for, and what to expect in the one year program in Nigeria.

What’s the Goal?

The overall aim of the program is to create opportunities for associates to access dignified and fulfilling work opportunities while shaping the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) debate to promote a practice that puts at the center the communities we intend to serve with our work.

The objectives of the YIA is to strengthen the relevant skills of YIAs to start on their MEL leadership journey; increase their understanding of the job market trends and requirements necessary to thrive in their desired career; while establishing, with the YIAs, a solid understanding and appreciation of the value brought by a responsible and context-sensitive approach to MEL.

Who are we looking for?

We are not looking for experienced MEL practitioners, or employed practitioners. We are looking for 12 young people between the ages of 25 and 35, who are considering monitoring and evaluation as a career, or might have little knowledge around MEL skills such as data analysis, research, stakeholder engagement, or community mobilization. Especially young people from underserved communities – people with disabilities; young women; young people from rural communities where development work in the country is prominent. At the same time, these young people need to show some level of leadership traits in their school, communities, and the society at large.

How do we select Associates?

A selection committee will be responsible for selecting the 12 Associates. Applicants will be subjected to a thorough, multi-level verification, and interview process. Only applicants that are considered to proceed to the multi-level interview process will be contacted within 2 weeks of the close of application. Because associates will be leading a new way of conducting context-specific evaluations, the selected applicants will be subjected through unusual, and multi-level ways of ascertaining their suitability for this program.

What will the Young Impact Associates Program look like?

It’s a 12-month, intensive, fully paid, full-time program. Activities will be co-created with the associates, nevertheless, it will include two 4-day bootcamps in a location in Nigeria; 7 weeks self paced online courses; internship within host organizations to gain practical experience; ongoing mentorship with partner organizations; attending knowledge sharing and learning events in country, and outside of the country.

Which organizations are implementing the Mastercard Foundation Young Impact Associates Program?

The Mastercard Foundation Young Impact Associates (YIA) program is implemented in Nigeria by a consortium of four organizations, led by Preston Associates for International Development (PAID), including Cloneshouse Nigeria, Itad, and Global Integrity.

      Hello Caren,

Yes, there is a chance of being employed, but not necessarily by/at the host organization; and only if the Young Impact Associate is found suitable, based on their performance in the YIA program. Hope this helps.
